The second day of the Chinese squad selection trials, securing inclusion in the Liebherr 2017 World Table Tennis Championships continued Thursday 9th February.
Some high octane matches were played, notably both Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin were on duty but neither scored wins over Liang Jingkun, who was successful up until his final encounter where he lost out to Yan An, he now occupy’s pole position in this elite group of table tennis players.
Some say the most talented Chinese player off all, Xu Xin was given a further blow to his selection opportunities when he then lost out to his colleague Fang Bo 2-1.
The scenario is nothing new to Xu Xin as he faces exclusion once again from the biggest tournament on the table tennis calendar, notably he was in a similar position for the WTTTC and still progressed without losing in the latter stages of qualification.
The trials are still in anyone’s interest as four players currently hold top spots on 4 points, six players retaining 5 points in second places.
